Turtle Rescue of the Hamptons

June 21, 2019

This following article (second paragraph) recently caught my eye. The reason for my interest is, since moving to Texas about fourteen years ago my late wife and I have rescued numerous turtles crossing busy highways. One day my wife’s antics stopped six lanes of traffic heading both ways. It was a tribute to Texas drivers that they all recognized a turtle in danger and stopped on both sides of the Southlake Boulevard so she could remove it. Be mindful of the following.

“Karen Testa heads the nonprofit Turtle Rescue of the Hamptons. A lifelong turtle lover, she spoke about some of the devastating injuries she's seen inflicted upon the animals, which can sometimes take years to rehabilitate before they can be released back into the wild. She and other experts also spoke about how important turtles are to the ecosystem, and how external factors are causing many turtle species to go extinct, which will in turn affect us.” (Newsday)

My point is turtles are an endangered species and very important to our ecosystem. We all worry about global warming but realize that we feel very impotent in solving this problem which is also killing amphibious and vertebrate life faster than at any time in history.

Be mindful of turtles crossing our roadways. Take the time to move them to safety without putting yourself in danger out on a busy thoroughfare. Put your hazard lights on and make sure traffic is stopping and save that turtle. Just a small gesture of kindness but something that makes us all feel good and it’s one small act to help out a small creature global warming may eventually destroy.  God bless and way to go Karen Testa.

God bless you all from the Maverick Doctor,
