American ISIS Fighters Why

Why is the United States interested in bringing back Americans who have left our country to fight for ISIS? Does this make sense?

According to CNN politics 59 Americans are believed to have traveled overseas to join ISIS, and more than a dozen, including a Texas man in January, have faced terror-related charges after being returned to the U.S., according to research from the George Washington University Program on Extremism. Many more are believed to have died on the battlefield.

But earlier this year, the U.S. government announced that an "ISIS affiliate," Hoda Muthana, would not be repatriated to the U.S., despite her pleas to return and face justice. Although she was born in New Jersey, the government said she was never a U.S. citizen due to her father's diplomatic status.

Another dual U.S.-Saudi national who had been captured by anti-ISIS fighters and transferred to U.S. military detention was released to a third country after that detention was challenged in multiple court actions by the American Civil Liberties Union.

Can any of us even imagine this? Our own American Civil Liberties Union gets involved in cases such as these. Why meddle to provide protection to American citizens who have purposely left the protection of our government to fight for other causes? In the above case the ACLU is now charging the USA of releasing the Saudi national into a country that would be unsafe for him. Crazy I know, but that is ACLU at its finest.

As we all know, our American court system often provides the luxury of room and board for years before a person is brought to justice, if then. Who pays for all of this? What is the cost of providing public defenders, detention facilities and transportation of these people from foreign countries to the United States simply to be then cared for by us?

Our court systems are already filled to capacity. Does it make sense to bring American ISIS fighters back into our court system simply so they can be tried? Why not release them back on the fields they were fighting on. George Washington University found many are believed to have died on the battlefield. Let them return to that battlefield and receive the justice they are fighting for. They no longer deserve the protection of our American justice system.
