Amnesia of America

Do you ever watch some of these shows on TV that a person has amnesia and now suddenly knows nothing about who they are or where they are from? Can you imagine what you would be like if that happened to you? Not much of a person huh! No stories to tell. Don’t remember where you came from or where you are going to. Don’t know if you had brothers or sisters or a mom or dad. Don’t know your health status. Can you get a job if you do not remember what you can do? If you try enough things, will you finally find something you may be good at?
Enter Amnesic America. Soon we will be a country without a past. We will be that man with amnesia. We won’t know who discovered us. Columbus will be written out of the history books because we didn’t like the way he dressed or the way he combed his hair. No more memorizing the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa María. What are they anyway?
We won’t know how we got here today. The Confederacy will be gone because many Americans think the Confederates fought on the wrong side. Do we even know why the civil war was fought? I think it may have been fought because the Northern states had no cotton to make clothes without the South, and the South wanted to sell their cotton to the French.
All the slave-owning states had already decided it was too expensive to own slaves with the cost of feeding them and providing medical care. The slaves were given small tracts of land by some of the plantation owners and for that, they agreed to take care of and feed their families on their own and continue to work the plantation. It was a win-win for slave and the plantation owner. The owning of slaves may have come to the end without the Civil war. Possible? Heck, make up anything you want. If you have no history, there will be no one to prove you wrong.
Class of 2025, here is your history assignment for today. Write a short history paper on what has happened in our country, the glorious United States of America since 2020. Our history books don’t go back further than that. If you want, take liberty with what you write because after another couple years the people will think this is the gospel truth and in a few years, what you say now will be written about as fact no matter the number of liberties you take or the lies you tell. You will be exactly like the false news of yesteryear. You are now the false news of today. You had good teachers.
Now get out there and tear those statues down. We don’t have to know presidents if we don’t agree with them. Expunge them from history. Golly, what are you going to do with Mount Rushmore?
